European investment firm Boundary Holding has expanded its portfolio with a strategic investment in RanMarine Technology, a Netherlands-based startup specializing in industrial autonomous surface vehicles (ASVs) for marine and water environments. This partnership marks a significant step towards fostering sustainable technology solutions that address pressing environmental challenges.
Before finalizing the investment, Boundary Holding's founder, Rajat Khare, and RanMarine's founder, Richard Hardiman, engaged in multiple discussions in Europe, aligning their vision for the future of cleantech. Expressing his enthusiasm for this collaboration, Khare stated, “Investment for a clean environment is our core focus area. I am impressed by how RanMarine has progressed in recent years, and I am excited about the potential of our partnership to drive impactful change.”
Richard Hardiman echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing that Boundary Holding’s investment would enable RanMarine to expand into new markets, strengthen its position in existing ones, and lay the groundwork for further growth—all while maintaining the highest quality standards. Following the investment, RanMarine plans to allocate funds towards research and development for upcoming products, enhancing its data and customer portal, expanding its team, and increasing its presence at trade shows to boost market reach.
At the core of RanMarine's innovation is its flagship marine drone, WasteShark, an advanced ASV designed to tackle water pollution by efficiently removing waste from water surfaces. This cutting-edge solution not only collects plastic waste and biomass but also provides real-time water quality data through inbuilt sensors measuring temperature, pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, oxidation-reduction potential (ORP), depth, and turbidity. WasteShark boasts an impressive 10-hour swim time, 5km range, and a capacity to clean up to 500kg of debris per day, with an operational lifespan of 15 years.
Highlighting the importance of such solutions, Rajat Khare remarked, “Innovations like WasteShark offer practical solutions to the growing challenge of maintaining clean water bodies. With rising global consumption and environmental concerns, the world needs more companies like RanMarine. Boundary Holding remains committed to supporting cleantech and medtech startups that contribute to environmental sustainability.”
This investment comes at a crucial time, amid the economic challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, and marks Boundary Holding’s third investment during this period. RanMarine currently serves clients across industries in the USA, Singapore, Malaysia, the EU, and the UAE, as well as NGOs such as the WWF.
Boundary Holding continues to play a pivotal role in the AI and deep-tech investment landscape, having backed some of Europe’s leading startups, including French-based Internest, Cerbair, and Germany-based Konux. With this latest investment, the firm reinforces its commitment to pioneering innovative, technology-driven solutions for a cleaner, more sustainable future.
